Penguins Hire Brandon Pridham As Hockey Operations Consultant
USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Connect

Senior hockey executive Brandon Pridham was not out of work for long. After leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs in May, he is now set to join the Pittsburgh Penguins as a hockey operations consultant, per Sportsnet’s Eliotte Friedman. Pridham will focus on contract and salary-cap management, filling a role previously held by Vukie Mpofu, who has moved on to the Nashville Predators.

Pridham spent the last 12 years in the Maple Leafs’ front office, steadily growing into one of the organization’s most trusted salary-cap specialists. He was originally hired ahead of the 2014-15 season as an assistant to the general manager under Dave Nonis. He remained with the club through the tenures of Lou Lamoriello and Kyle Dubas, with Dubas promoting Pridham to assistant general manager in 2018.

Pridham’s salary-cap expertise was central to Toronto’s contract negotiations with Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and John Tavares. With his guidance, the Maple Leafs managed to keep all four stars under the cap while maintaining a competitive supporting cast. Pridham’s command of the collective bargaining agreement and savvy approach to contract negotiations have made him a frequent candidate for general manager openings in recent years. That reputation was briefly reinforced when Pridham served as Toronto’s co-interim GM for two months of the 2025-26 season after Brad Treliving‘s dismissal on March 30.

Pridham stepped away from Toronto before a wave of front-office firings and departures that followed the hiring of John Chayka as general manager. In Pittsburgh, he will reunite with longtime coworker Dubas and bring a specialized skill set to a franchise approaching a major transition. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are each entering the final year of their current deals, while Erik Karlsson‘s contract also expires after next season and Kris Letang‘s runs through 2027-28. Whether Pittsburgh re-signs their future Hall-of-Fame talents or begins reshaping the roster around young players such as Benjamin Kindel, Egor Chinakhov, and Arturs Silovs – Pridham’s cap knowledge could give the Penguins more flexibility as they plan their next era.
