Commanders OC reveals Jayden Daniels' mindset after frustrating 2025 season

David Blough has yet to take the field as Washington's offensive coordinator, but recently gave some news that should be exciting to Commanders fans.

Since arriving in Washington, Blough has watched Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels bounce back after a frustrating season in 2025, and he believes that Daniels has approached the upcoming season with a new sense of purpose.

David Blough believes Jayden Daniels is ready for another leap

During an interview with NFL analyst Ari Meirov on "NFL Spotlight," Blough spoke about what Daniels' mindset is heading into his third season as Commanders quarterback.

"I think he was incredibly frustrated with how '25 went after a flawless '24, and he was ready also for a new challenge," Blough said.

Blough's analysis of Daniels speaks volumes. While Daniels could have spent the offseason dwelling on his and the team's disappointing 2025 campaign after having an incredible rookie year, he instead allowed that frustration to be his motivating driver heading into 2026. Top-tier quarterbacks in the NFL are not the type to get complacent, and according to Blough, Daniels seemingly wants to prove that last year's disappointment of a season was an anomaly.

Jayden Daniels has embraced Washington's new offense

Blough also praised the way Daniels has embraced Washington's new offensive direction.

"So the conversations that he and I have had, when we get to sit down and I get to present new concepts to him or new ideas or new operational ways to do things, he has just kind of grabbed it by the horns and ran with it," Blough added. "I think it may look a little bit different than he's looked the last two years... you're going to see somebody who's deadly accurate, whose feet are on time and in rhythm."

That may be the most encouraging takeaway from the interview. A new offensive coordinator often brings growing pains, but Blough described a quarterback eager to absorb new ideas rather than resist change. He even hinted the offense "may look a little bit different" than it has over the past two seasons, suggesting Daniels is already comfortable with the adjustments being installed ahead of training camp.

If Blough's comments are any indication, Washington isn't counting on Daniels simply returning to form. The expectation inside the building is that he'll continue evolving. That's exactly what the Commanders need from a quarterback who remains the centerpiece of their long-term plans, and it's a message that should give fans plenty of confidence heading into the 2026 season.
