Coming off another season derailed by injuries to Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals are left hoping they can protect their franchise quarterback in 2026. And if Burrow can stay healthy, he should reclaim his place among the NFL's elite.
While Burrow's string of injuries within the early years of his career can be argued as just bad luck or even due to his aggressive style, some believe they can also be traced to pass protection issues. But regardless of what's happened in the past, veteran offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is confident in the current offensive line.
Brown, 30, even went as far as to say the Bengals have the best pass protection unit in the league during a recent appearance on the "Locked On Bengals" podcast.
"I really think, and I say this confidently, I really feel like we got the best pass protection unit in the NFL," Brown said. "There isn't a lot of groups that could come do what we do on a week-to-week basis and have the success that we've had, especially with the circumstances. As you guys know, pass protection is the hardest thing to do in the sport in my opinion. Probably outside of a few other things like playing quarterback and man-to-man coverage at corner. ... Our unit is so strong in pass protection," he explained.

Brown, who joined the Bengals ahead of the 2023 season after winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, now needs to make sure his teammates don't make him regret his words. In 2025, Cincinnati's offensive line ranked 28th in pass-block win rate at 58% and 22nd in total pressures surrendered.
Burrow was only able to play in eight games after suffering a serious turf toe-type injury. He also played in just 10 games two seasons ago as a result of a wrist injury that required surgery.
And with no quarterback having endured as many sacks as the 213 by Burrow since he entered the NFL in 2020, there's no denying the pressure on the offensive line to make sure the Bengals don't waste the prime years of their three-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
To the Bengals' credit, they did bolster their offensive line somewhat this offseason by re-signing veteran guard Dalton Risner and drafting center Connor Lew and tackle Brian Parker II. They even signed depth piece tackles Christian Jones and Corey Robinson.
Brown's comments may become bulletin board material for opponents, and the concern stems from the 2025 core emerging as the starting group again this fall.
