Trae Taylor still has to play his senior season of high school football for Millard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
There is already an expectation that Taylor will be a star at the college level, though. At least the rankings are predicting it is possible.
Taylor has been committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers since May, but he's had quite a big summer even after that moment.
He's been looking great on the camp circuit, and he was even named the MVP of the Elite 11 Finals by Rivals.
Speaking of Rivals, the long-standing recruiting service recently awarded Taylor a fifth star. When he committed to Nebraska, he was technically a 4-star recruit.
It was everything Taylor showed this summer that impressed evaluators, though.
“We had a chance to see a majority of these top quarterbacks in the 2027 cycle in person this offseason. I think it’s safe to say that no quarterback had a stronger offseason than Trae Taylor," said Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Director Charles Power. "He looked like one of the top arm talents in the cycle at the Elite 11 Finals, where he was the Rivals MVP. He showed the ability to push the ball to every level of the field with a ton of velocity."

Taylor transferred from Carmel Catholic to Millard South for his senior season. The Patriots boast one of the best high school football programs in the state, so the expectations will be high for the 5-star.
He should be able to meet them, though. As a junior, he threw for over 3,500 yards and 38 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions. He also rushed for over 600 yards on the ground with 12 rushing touchdowns.
Taylor's senior season in high school may ultimately determine his true upside as a college recruit, but he's been getting better year after year. With that said, the ceiling is potentially unlimited.
It's not just Rivals that sees it, either.
"Took a major step forward as a junior and parlayed it into a series of impressive showings on the offseason circuit in advance of senior year," wrote 247Sports' scout Andrew Irvins.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Taylor is the top quarterback prospect in the country. He's also the No. 11 recruit overall.
