Juan Soto breaks MLB record with trio of walks in Mets' win

MLB saw history made on its first day of its return to action after the All-Star break on Thursday. With only one hit and only one official at-bat, Juan Soto was still the driving force of the New York Mets' 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. 

Staying in Philadelphia after experiencing his fifth career All-Star Game, Soto drew three walks while going 1-for-1 throughout the night. Soto's three walks were exactly half of the total for the entire Mets team.

However, Soto, 27, is no stranger to getting on base thanks to walks, as he's now accumulated 52 games with a trifecta of walks. Historically speaking, Soto now has the most games with three or more walks before turning 28. He broke a previous tie with former MLB third baseman and Mets coach Eddie Yost.  

Soto, who is in his second with the Mets, has also upped his batting average and OBP as well. He's now hitting .292 with a .412 OBP and a .563 slug rounding out the rest of his current slash line.

In 79 games played and 277 at-bats, Soto has 21 home runs, 51 RBI and 58 walks to go along with his 44 runs scored and eight doubles. 

He crushed a career-best 43 home runs in 2025 and also drove in 105 runs, only five away from matching his high from his second year when he helped the Washington Nationals go all the way and win the World Series. 

Overall in nine seasons, Soto has 265 home runs, 748 RBI and a .282 average. He also has 954 total walks, putting him on a pace to keep setting more records and making more history throughout the rest of his career.
