Yankees expected to use former top prospects as trade assets

With the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline quickly approaching, it is becoming clearer as to which players that buying teams are going to be willing to give away.

For the New York Yankees, those players are reportedly known throughout the league.

Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez could be on the move

According to reporter Francys Romero, the Yankees are expected to use outfielders Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez as trade assets in their hopes of making a major deadline splash.

Both outfielders are former top 100 MLB prospects, as well as No. 1 overall prospects in the Yankees system.

Jones (.233/.317/.370) and Dominguez (.245/.315/.401) have each struggled during their times with the major league club, something that will certainly factor into the decision to move off two players that were once expected to be staples in the New York outfield for years to come.

What big moves does Brian Cashman want to make?

It would seem that packaging Jones and Dominguez together in hopes of acquiring a Tarik Skubal-level player would be what the Yankees front office is hoping to do.

If not that, it could be a package with those two to acquire catching help in Ryan Jeffers or Hunter Goodman.

Whatever the decision may be, it appears that once the trade deadline passes, Jones and Dominguez will be with a different organization(s) for the first time in their careers.
