Steelers' Roman Wilson under pressure after 'inconsistent' season with Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are gearing up for what they hope is a championship season. Hopes are high, and the excitement is at a fever pitch.

This is Rodgers' last season in the NFL. He's already said that. But for most players on the Steelers' roster, they're hoping this year is a launching pad into the next phase of their career.

The Athletic has published its roster of the players in the NFL who have something to prove in the new season. They selected one for each team. This Steelers player needs to play better with Rodgers. Because that's the job criteria this year.

Wide receiver needs to show his stuff with the Steelers this season

Mike DeFabo of The Athletic picked wide receiver Roman Wilson as being someone who has to make a jump this year.

"The Steelers had hoped Roman Wilson would take a leap in Year 2 to be part of the answer at WR2," DeFabo said. "However, his connection with Aaron Rodgers was inconsistent, and by the end of 2025, the former Michigan receiver slid down the depth chart, leapfrogged by late-season additions Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Adam Thielen."

Wilson appeared in 13 games last season, recording 12 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

DeFabo added that Wilson has "been working hard this offseason to fine-tune his route running and enters a pivotal third season with a prime opportunity."

So, head coach Mike McCarthy will have to work with Wilson and give him a chance to finally bloom this year. If he does, he could be dynamite with Rodgers.
