Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs non-participants in camp Wednesday amid contract discussions

Atlanta Falcons star Bijan Robinson and Detroit Lions standout Jahmyr Gibbs both held out of training camp practices Wednesday, creating buzz around two of the NFL's premier young running backs.

Contract discussions have led to the hold-ins

Robinson and Gibbs both being in attendance at camp make them hold-ins, rather than holdouts. As to what led to the non-participation for the two star running backs, it all has to do with contract negotiations.

Atlanta has had ongoing contract negotiations with Robinson, as has Detroit with Gibbs. Both running backs are seeking long-term extensions that reward them handsomely for being among the best running backs in the league over the previous two seasons.

When do the hold-ins become concerning?

The fact that both Robinson and Gibbs are present at training camp rather than being completely absent is a good sign.

That gives the impression that contract negotiations are in a good place and headed in the right direction. If the situations for either begin to drag into preseason games, that's when the issue would begin to get concerning.

What do long-term extensions look like?

As it currently stands, Saquon Barkley is the league's highest paid running back at $20.6 million per year.

It feels very likely that both Robinson and Gibbs are wanting to reset the market and become the highest paid running back not only in the league right now, but of all-time and they have a fair point.

Robinson and Gibbs have each been in the top seven in rushing yards in each of the previous two seasons and in the top 10 in all-purpose yardage.

Long-term extensions somewhere in the range of $23 million to $25 million annually feel like a fair price for two of the top running backs in the league.
