Is Aaron Donald's return to the Rams imminent?

For years, NFL fans and analysts have wondered whether Aaron Donald would ever consider a comeback.

The Los Angeles Rams legend retired young, and while he had accomplished everything there was to accomplish, he clearly still had something left in the tank.

Now, two years later, that moment may have come. Myles Garrett's addition may have just been the push he needed to return, and it looks like it's a matter of time.

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, his recent conversations with Rams head coach Sean McVay make him think it won't be too long before Donald gets back on the field.

Aaron Donald will come back in the next two weeks

"Notice I didn’t write “if” Donald is coming back, but when. A recent chat with head coach Sean McVay has me convinced this is happening, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the contract was formalized in the next 7-10 days, barring some sort of medical issue or change of heart," La Canfora wrote.

Donald never stopped working out, and while there's a difference between being in great shape and being in football shape, he might not need as much time as others to get back to full speed.

So, while the Rams definitely won't rush him, Donald reportedly has "an itch" to get back on the field as early as possible, putting him in a strong position to play in the season opener.

"But players and execs around the league are getting the strong impression that Donald is busting his tail to get into football shape and that he’s more inclined to be playing football again by the early portion of the season," La Canfora added.

Of course, expecting Donald to be the same guy he was two years ago might not be realistic, but even this version of Donald will be better than most defensive tackles.

Also, the Rams still have to figure out how to proceed with the $31.1 million left in his contract, but that shouldn't be much of an issue. If anything, they'll probably rework it to lower that number and help him recoup that money through bonuses and incentives.

Beware, quarterbacks: Aaron Donald appears to be coming.
