Shedeur Sanders made major move in Browns QB competition, analyst says

Another day, and another bit of news about the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition. It's shaping up to get hot between second-year player Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson.

These two are splitting reps, and Sanders took the stage on Thursday. But, according to one NFL analyst, Sanders has already made a good first impression with this franchise.

Last year, Sanders started in seven games for the Browns. That's a huge responsibility for a rookie, and he handled it well. Even though Sanders didn't lead the Browns to the postseason, it was a valiant effort for a rookie just getting started in the NFL, especially one drafted so late. He notched 56.6% of his passes for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns, according to the stats.

Now, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler is dishing on how the Browns feel about Sanders.

"Deshaun Watson was the favorite in the spring. Sources have continued to tell me that Shedeur Sanders did close the gap somewhat by his decisiveness and his presence," Fowler said on Good Morning Football on Thursday. "People are drawn to him. It's just, he's got a personality that brings people in a little bit. So, Deshaun Watson's going to have to overcome that."

So, Sanders is already impressing, and he has charisma, too.

"They're going to mix and match different looks for them, put them in first-team scenarios," Fowler added. "I wouldn't be surprised if Todd Monken wants to play this through some preseason game action, get both players some reps, some starts, seeing who truly wins this job."

Time will tell who wins the starting quarterback role. This one between Sanders and Watson could really go either way.
