49ers get much-needed WR help with Deebo Samuel reunion

Deebo Samuel had a bounce-back season in 2025

Samuel spent last season with the Washington Commanders and despite quarterback injuries plaguing the Commanders, Samuel had an excellent bounce-back season.

He hauled in 72 catches for 727 yards and scored five touchdowns. All of those were improvements from the 2024 season in San Francisco when he had just 51 catches, 670 yards and three touchdowns.

Training-camp injuries led to the two sides reuniting

The 49ers have already been plagued by injuries in training camp, especially to their wide receivers. 

Free-agent signing Christian Kirk is dealing with an injury, third-year man Ricky Pearsall is dealing with knee soreness and may miss the entire season, and Jauan Jennings signed with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency.

Veteran wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been in a well-publicized feud with the 49ers, and he wants to end up with the Commanders. He hasn't played since the 2024 season due to a severe knee injury, and he said he won't apply for reinstatement because he doesn't want to do business with the 49ers.

In light of the injury issues and the Aiyuk saga, Samuel will provide much-needed depth to the wide receiver room and have familiarity with Kyle Shanahan's offense.
