Chiefs receive Rashee Rice warning as training camp gets underway

It's the moment Kansas City Chiefs fans have been waiting for since December's blow.

Their franchise quarterback and the heartbeat of the team, Patrick Mahomes, went down with an ACL and LCL tear last December. It was crushing, and that was on top of a season that was just a bad look for the Chiefs.

Now, the Chiefs training camp is in full swing, and Mahomes is back with the team. That's great. But, there's one player also coming back from drama that's key to this team's success.

Chiefs receive warning about key injury and off-field drama for WR1

Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports has unleashed his NFL power rankings as training camp gets into full action across the league. In the piece, he ranks the Chiefs No. 13. While some franchises would be happy with that spot, Kansas City isn't most franchises. It's too low.

He points out the drama surrounding Rashee Rice, including his health and legal issues.

"Things you never want to hear about your No. 1 WR: He had knee surgery in June while in jail for a probation violation," he notes. "But that’s Rashee Rice."

He adds that "on the bright side, QB Patrick Mahomes is cleared to practice, but his full recovery from ACL surgery is still a concern."

Those are tough words. It's certainly the case that Rice's drama could impact the franchise this coming season.

During his rookie season, when the Chiefs last won the Super Bowl, Rice had 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. He hasn't been able to recapture that magic since, playing in only 12 games combined in 2024 and 2025 due to injury and suspension.

The Chiefs can't afford to have their top wide receiver sidelined again. Last season, Rice played in only eight games, and the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Much went wrong for the Chiefs last season, and Rice's on- and off-field problems were part of it.

But, if he's back, healthy and free of all the offseason stuff, he could help the Chiefs return to their former glory.
