Brandon Aiyuk gets big update on Commanders' interest

For years now, Brandon Aiyuk has made life tough for the San Francisco 49ers' coaching staff and front office.

Barring a shocking turn of events, he'll never play another down for Kyle Shanahan's team, not even with a plethora of injuries at wide receiver.

Aiyuk has been unilaterally trying to force his way out of the team, with the Washington Commanders as his preferred destination. In the meantime, he's burned bridges with former allies, even taking shots at Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Notably, that's why the Commanders may no longer be interested in his services. According to ESPN insider John Keim, that ship may have sailed.

The Commanders are unlikely to consider Brandon Aiyuk

“Now? The phrase you’ll hear is 'never say never,' but there’s been a definite cooling of the Commanders’ interest after Aiyuk’s Instagram postings over the past month, including some about Daniels,” wrote Keim.

Commanders general manager Adam Peters downplayed the impact of social media on whether they would consider adding a player. Then again, Aiyuk's case is concerning and cannot be overlooked:

“As Peters said last week — speaking about no one in particular — he ‘usually’ doesn’t factor a player’s social media posts when deciding whether to acquire him. Then Peters punctuated it with another ‘usually,'” added Keim.

Aiyuk is a talented player, but he's been out for a long time, and he's created way too much turmoil.

Even if he's released and the Commanders can get him free of risk, they should have some strong doubts about whether to welcome him into their locker room.
