Chiefs' Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes called out for 'simply ordinary' season

It wasn't a normal season for the Kansas City Chiefs. It was really the opposite of that, of course. Even before quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with an ACL and LCL tear in December, the Chiefs were not on the road to the postseason. For a team that's used to going every single year, it was weird.

Even though it wasn't the best season, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has enjoyed plenty of success with this team. For that reason, he's still considered one of the best head coaches in the NFL.

Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports released a feature on Monday with a list of the best head coaches in the league. For the ranking, various NFL experts at CBS voted, and their votes were tallied into results.

Chiefs' Andy Reid still among the best, but there's a catch

Reid snagged the No. 4 spot on this list. In the piece, Pereles notes that it could have been higher, except that they fell last season.

"Well, it's a 'What have you done for me lately?' sort of business, and Reid is coming off a 6-11 season in which Patrick Mahomes and company looked simply ordinary," he states in the piece. "In truth, the offense has been just OK over the last three years, though Reid still has a Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl appearance during that span."

He adds that this coming season will be a big one for Reid and the Chiefs. The team is in a "semi-reset after losing several top players" and Mahomes is trying to come back from his injury. But, history means something, and that's why Reid is still ranked in the top five of current NFL coaches. When the pads come off and the season begins, things could be looking up.
