Packers HC Matt LaFleur gets subtle warning ahead of 2026 season

There's no getting around that the Green Bay Packers are a franchise that's historic in nature. They have a history of winning, and they're still strong. But head coach Matt LaFleur and the team just haven't been able to go all the way lately.

Sometimes it's because of injuries. Other times, it's just bad timing. Any way that you look at it, the Packers have something to prove this season. That's not a bad thing. Having a reason to fight can be very motivating. Let's see if it puts some fire under these guys' feet to get the job done.

In a piece out on Monday, Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports lists the best head coaches in the NFL right now. NFL experts at CBS voted on these coaches, and their votes were tallied into the final results.

On the bright side, LaFleur comes in at No. 10 on this list, so he has respect in the league. That comes with a bit of a warning.

"On one hand, Matt LaFleur's resume includes a terrific .654 win percentage; the resurgence of Aaron Rodgers (who won MVP in 2020 and 2021 -- LaFleur's second and third years on the job); and just one losing season," Pereles notes in the piece. "On the other hand, LaFleur is just 3-6 in the postseason and has lost five of his last six playoff games."

He adds that it "feels like his team is always scratching at the surface of breaking into the upper crust but never quite getting there."

It's a harsh reality check. But the talent is there. It's just another reason to get motivated for the Packers' 2026-27 season.
