Mets' Jefry Yan responds to negative reactions about viral celebrations

Long before relief pitcher Jefry Yan made his official MLB debut for the New York Mets on Wednesday night, he went viral for his animated strikeout celebrations in the minor leagues. 

Yan emphatically celebrated notching his first career MLB strikeout during the Mets' 6-5 extra-innings win over the Guardians. Following the victory, he responded to Guardians fans and others who may not love his on-the-mound antics.

"I don't think about [the fans booing]," Yan said, per Phillip Martinez of SNY. "They can do whatever they want. They’re paying for their tickets. If they want to yell at me, boo at me, they can do whatever they want. I’m in my zone. I’m going to enjoy my game any way that I want to."

While Yan struck out the first batter he faced in the bottom of the sixth inning of Wednesday's game, the Guardians later loaded the bases with one out. However, Yan recorded a second strikeout and then got Cleveland's Jo Adell to ground out to get out of the jam.

"I was really excited," Yan added about his debut. "I was also a little nervous. I wanted to get in and out of there right away but got into a little trouble, but I was able to dig deep and get out of that inning. I was very excited and very grateful for that opportunity."
