An annual Notre Dame-Texas game would be great for college football

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have one of the biggest brands in sports, let alone in college football. The same can be said for the Texas Longhorns, though on a slightly smaller level.

A Notre Dame-Texas primetime game would draw eyeballs from even the most casual of college football viewers, and it does sound like having an annual series between the Longhorns and Fighting Irish could be possible.

The Irish just renewed their classic rivalry series with the USC Trojans (starting in 2030), and on the heels of that big news, Notre Dame athletics director Pete Bevacqua said that he's going to continue to go hunting for big games.

That includes a series he's hoping to keep rolling with the Longhorns.

Starting in 2028, the two iconic brands are scheduled to play a home-and-home series. They'll play in South Bend in 2028 and in Austin in 2029.

From there, Bevacqua would like to keep it rolling.

“I talk to Chris Del Conte often,” Bevacqua recently told "The Golics," referencing the Texas athletic director (h/t On3). “We’re both bullish and gung-ho about keeping that game on the schedule. You talk about two of the great brands in college football playing one another. That’s going to be great here, it’s going to be great there."
