Michael Porter Jr.'s reported contract demands have been revealed

Michael Porter Jr. is looking for a nice raise in order to continue his partnership with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets forward Porter wants an extension from the team that starts at around what he is making right now, Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports reported this week. Deveney does add however that Brooklyn likely will not be going that high to extend Porter.

Porter, 28, is currently on an expiring contract. He made $38.3 million from the team last season and will see that number go up to $40.8 million next season.

The former lottery pick Porter is also in a strong negotiating position right now. He is just coming off a career year for the Nets in 2025-26 during which he averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game as the team’s undisputed No. 1 option.

For the moment, Porter is eligible for a new four-year contract from Brooklyn (which would become a five-year contract if Porter waits until next offseason for his full Bird rights to kick in). At his current salary with the CBA maximum of eight percent in annual raises, Porter appears to be looking for an extension in the ballpark of four years and roughly $183 million.

But the Nets are a rebuilding team right now after going a hapless 20-62 last season. Hamstringing themselves with an expensive new extension for Porter might not be the wisest move for Brooklyn, which is why Porter has been linked to some notable teams in trade rumors recently before a potential 2027 foray into free agency.
