Browns could make QB change amid Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson competition

The Cleveland Browns are really at the center stage this training camp, as Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson compete to land the starting quarterback role come September.

But, what about quarterback Dillon Gabriel? He's not going for the starting quarterback role or even QB2. That makes him a valuable and tradable asset for another NFL team that may have a real need at QB2.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report is urging the Browns to rethink having Gabriel on the team's lineup. Instead, they could trade him and get some draft capital.

"Gabriel isn't an NFL starter, but the former Oregon standout and Heisman finalist has the tools and intangibles to be a quality backup," Knox writes. "The issue in Cleveland is that Gabriel was drafted to fit Kevin Stefanski's offense, and Stefanski is now in Atlanta."

So, will the Browns get much for him? Probably not. But, that's okay.

"Gabriel is unlikely to bring a big return in a trade, but with Cleveland moving in a new direction, it should make him available," Knox adds.

Gabriel has plenty to prove, either way. At 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds, he's undersized by NFL standards, and his 80.8 passer rating as a rookie left plenty to be desired. Still, there were some encouraging signs last season. Gabriel showed good accuracy and decision-making, throwing seven touchdowns against just two interceptions despite playing with a weak supporting cast. He did well enough to have another NFL team be interested in him, if that's the direction the Browns want to go.
