Victor Wembanyama thinks he can break one iconic NBA record

Victor Wembanyama appears to have been inspired by Bam Adebayo.

The San Antonio Spurs star center Wembanyama was interviewed this week by French content creator Rookicks. During the interview, Wembanyama was asked about the possibility of breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s iconic record of 100 points scored in a single game.

Wembanyama responded (per a rough translation from French) that he believed he could do so. Here is the full video of Wembanyama’s interview.

That is obviously going to be a tall task (no pun intended) for the 22-year-old Wembanyama. After all, he “only” averaged 25.0 points per game for the Spurs last season, and his NBA career high for points scored in a single game sits at 50 points in 2024 (exactly half of where Wembanyama needs to be to hit the record).

Still, anything seems possible these days after the Miami Heat star Adebayo scored 83 points in a game in March 2026 to break Kobe Bryant’s modern record of 81 and nestle himself behind only Chamberlain’s 100 in 1962 in the annals of history. That was despite Adebayo, a six-time All-Defensive selection who is a career 16-ppg scorer, never being known as a score-first player.

After losing to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals this year, Wembanyama made headlines earlier this summer by agreeing to a team-friendly new extension with the Spurs. Now Wembanyama is hoping to make headlines again by (eventually) shattering The Big Dipper’s 64-year-old record.
