Eagles HC praises Jalen Hurts for development in new offense

This could be a make-or-break season for the Philadelphia Eagles. Although they won the Super Bowl just 18 months ago, the offense has struggled mightily in parts of the last two seasons, and a lot of it has to do with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Super Bowl LIX MVP flashes the ability to orchestrate a high-level offense, but other times it’s a struggle for him and the team to even pick up a first down. Hurts had less than 200 passing yards in more than half of his games last season, which was one of the reasons former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was removed.

Philadelphia hired Sean Mannion this offseason to run the offense and sent wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. Now, with a completely different scheme, Hurts is under more pressure to perform than ever before.

He has about a month to master the parts of the offense that have been installed, and it sounds like he’s well on his way. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni did an interview on Monday at the team’s training camp, where he praised Hurts’ performance in practices. 

“He’s just had the ability to get the ball where it needs to go," Sirianni said, via NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. "Over top of defenders, through defenders, I think he can make every type of throw.”

Earlier in the interview Sirianni was pleased with Hurts’ understanding of the offense.

“I think he’s doing a really nice job of working through his progressions, handling the new things we’re asking him to do offensively,” Sirianni said.
