Tyler Allen reveals why No. 54 didn't team have brake issues at Iowa

Both Chase Briscoe and Denny Hamlin had brake issues during NASCAR Cup Series practice on Saturday at Iowa Speedway that they thought would significantly hinder their ability to race in Sunday's Iowa Corn 350. 

And while Hamlin and Briscoe finished fifth and sixth, respectively, the two Joe Gibbs Racing drivers who finished 1-2, Ty Gibbs and Christopher Bell, had no brake issues all weekend. 

Why did Ty Gibbs have no brake issues at Iowa?

Gibbs' crew chief, Tyler Allen, revealed why the No. 54 car didn't have similar issues while speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Tuesday. 

"There's some development going on trying to make the brake package better," Allen said. "For the 54 group specifically, we felt like we had a pretty race-proven package, and that's what we stuck to. Glad we did, we didn't have any brake issues all day. 

"That was good. Made it a little smoother Saturday for us, and we could focus on what we needed for the race."

Allen, a nine-time winning crew chief in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, was named Gibbs' crew chief at the start of the 2025 season. After missing the playoffs last year, Gibbs, Allen and the No. 54 team have won two Cup races this year and are second in the standings through 23 races.
