Rodney Childers never felt Carson Kvapil was second fiddle at JRM

Carson Kvapil has split time in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series this season between the No. 91 for DGM Racing and the No. 1 for JR Motorsports.

Despite racing the full season, Kvapil has done so with two race teams and watched the No. 1 team win twice with Connor Zilisch before he had won his first race in the series.

However, consecutive wins at Indianapolis and Iowa for Kvapil, who will drive the No. 1 in the final 10 races of the season, have turned him into a championship threat and have also seen the 23-year-old fully realize his potential.

Rodney Childers glad to see a confident Carson Kvapil again

"I definitely think it was hard on him to basically watch his team go race with somebody else and to win races with somebody else," said Rodney Childers, the crew chief for the No. 1 JRM Chevy, Tuesday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "He probably felt like he was second fiddle at times. All the guys on this 1 team never felt that way. We wanted to work as hard as anything to get Carson into victory lane and to prove that he could do it.

"I've been able to watch his confidence build all year long and kind of get back to the Carson that I knew from the Late Model Stock days, of knowing he can show up and win. He kind of got beat down a little bit. I feel like he's back where he needs to be now."

Kvapil left Iowa second in points. He'll go for a third straight win at Daytona on Aug. 28 in the NOAPS regular season finale, as well as an opportunity to hold on to the No. 2 seed in the Chase.
