Lane Kiffin shuts down one narrative from controversial move to LSU

Kiffin defended his decision to take LSU's offer, adding that it didn't necessarily mean he didn't love his previous situation.

“You have a new circumstance, you have a new decision come up and you take a different job. You didn’t go against things you said, values and principles, or anything. Two things can be right and be true at the exact same time,” he added. “These two things can be right. I could have loved Oxford and loved Ole Miss and truly mean that I needed it more than it needed me. And, I could have taken a new job. This doesn’t mean that didn’t happen.”

Kiffin then argued that expectations were much higher at LSU, stating that fans would've probably taken a 7-5 season at Oxford, but that would've been a disaster for the Tigers. That's all valid and makes sense, but as much as he's trying to save face, that doesn't change the fact that he left his program right before the playoffs to join a powerhouse.

Regardless of the intent or his feelings, that's literally what happened; there's no other way around it. Then, when he couldn't get his way and finish the job at Oxford, he actively sabotaged the program's chances by trying to get his assistants to leave right away, creating unnecessary distractions right before the big game.

Kiffin has every right to do what's best for his career; everybody does. Still, those comments will most likely only ruffle more feathers at Ole Miss. What happened, happened.
