Rams are still facing potential Puka Nacua problem for Week 1 after injury scare

The Los Angeles Rams dodged a massive bullet with star wide receiver Puka Nacua.

The young All-Pro left Tuesday's practice with an apparent groin injury, sounding the alarm about a potential long-term soft-tissue ailment. Nacua reportedly avoided serious injury and was only removed from the session as a precaution. It should be just a matter of time before he's back out there.

Nevertheless, that doesn't mean he'll be eligible to suit up for the season opener vs. the San Francisco 49ers. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, he could still be suspended for at least Week 1.

Puka Nacua could be suspended for the Rams' season opener

"Cases that I believe are now being reviewed include that of the Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, who could potentially face discipline for some of the offseason headlines that accompanied him and some of those incidents last year with another woman," Schefter said on his podcast.

Nacua was under fire for some antisemitic remarks on a stream and for allegedly biting a woman. He sought counsel and checked himself into rehab shortly after the end of the season, and the team has been fully supportive of him. Still, the league might not feel the same way.

"What did and did not occur, we'll leave that to the NFL to figure out what did and did not happen. But, it's possible that when the Niners and Rams play in Australia, it's within the realm of options that Puka does not play in that game," added Schefter.

Nacua is next in line to reset the wide receiver market, though the Rams might be taking things slowly after this controversy-riddled offseason. Even so, he has all the tools to be the most prolific pass-catcher in the game. Not having him out there, even for a game, can spell disaster for Sean McVay's passing game.

The league already suspended Indianapolis Colts CB Cam Taylor-Britt for one game for violating the league's personal conduct policy in the offseason, so Nacua might find out his punishment (if any) soon.
