Buss family might be getting back in basketball ownership business

In 2025, the Buss family sold the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter for $10 billion.

Now, less than a year later, the Lakers switched hands again, with Bob Iger and Josh Kushner acquiring the franchise for a whopping $12.5 billion.

The Buss family wasn't a part of that deal, but they didn't wait long to dip their toes into the pro basketball business again.

According to Gabriel Pantel-Jouve of BeBasket, they're in advanced talks to acquire French team ASVEL, currently owned and coached by San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker.

“ASVEL enters August with a very different project than the one envisioned at the start of the offseason. After failing to secure a partnership that was supposed to boost its budget to €59 million, the Villeurbanne club has had to scale back, part ways with several new signings, and rebuild its roster. New coach Tony Parker must now finalize his recruitment while also overseeing negotiations for the sale of the club to the Buss family,” Pantel-Jouve reported.

Per the report, the club is valued at €120 million, though given their financial situation, the price range might fluctuate between €60 and €80 million.

Tony Parker took the reins of the team after they finished fourth in the 2025–26 LNB Élite regular season, boasting a 20-10 record and qualifying for the upcoming EuroLeague.

However, any deal might be finalized closer to the end of the year, so even with the Buss's money coming in, they might be forced to part ways with some of their biggest fish before the start of the tournament on Sept. 24.
