DiJonai Carrington sparks more backlash after poking an opponent in the eye

DiJonai Carrington is not exactly having a great month of August.

The Chicago Sky guard Carrington received more backlash during Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries. In the first quarter at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., Carrington was defending Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini on the perimeter and swiped down at the ball.

Carrington ended up poking Zandalasini right in the eye with her other hand and was whistled for a foul (but only a common foul rather than a flagrant foul).

It was not an impressive game for Carrington otherwise either. She went 1-of-9 from the field for three points with three turnovers and three personal fouls as the Sky got blown out by the Valkyries in a 91-71 final score.

At one point in the game, Carrington also tried to get a Golden State fan kicked out from his courtside seat. She ultimately failed, though, as the fan ended up being allowed back in afterward.

The 28-year-old Carrington, a former All-Defensive first-team selection, has quickly developed a reputation as a dirty player. She was ejected from a game last week against the Indiana Fever for a flagrant 2 foul on guard Sophie Cunningham and immediately took to social media right after to post about “white privilege.” Carrington also had a similar eye-poke incident with another Fever player , superstar guard Caitlin Clark, during a 2024 playoff game.
