Drew Allar provides hope for Steelers' future with impressive preseason performance

Drew Allar hit Kaden Wetjen for a 74-yard play that set up a score 

Late in the third quarter, Allar hit Wetjen right at the numbers, allowing him to haul in the ball a step ahead of the closest defender. Wetjen was then able to turn on the jets and sprint up the field just shy of the end zone. Allar then kept the ball himself and ran in for the score to cap off his very successful first drive in the NFL. 

And from there, he stayed consistent and found paydirt two more times, both with his arm to Wetjen and fullback Riley Nowakowski. Allar showed his mobility to effectively scramble outside of the pocket in the red zone.  

Staying humble and realizing he still has a long way to go to prove himself, Allar praised the complete team effort that led to his individual success after the game.

"I think my job as a quarterback is to go out and put up points no matter what the situation is. So I feel like we did a good job of that. And it wasn't just me out there. I had 10 other guys and then including the coaching staff, obviously with Coach [Mike] McCarthy calling the plays," said a humble Allar to reporters. 

While it's important to not read too much into one preseason game, Allar's strong play in game action only intensified the hype surrounding the Steelers' 2026 third-round draft pick.
