Giants fans get more good Malik Nabers news amid Week 1 goal

A recent report indicated that New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers was on track to return to the team's lineup for the club's regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh offered a promising update regarding Nabers' ongoing recovery.

Giants' plans for ramping Malik Nabers up haven't changed

"He's kind of exactly where he's been," Harbaugh said about Nabers, per the Giants' website. "And we're looking towards soon ramping him up into some group periods and perhaps some team periods. Maybe next week, we'll see. He's doing great. He's working hard. Spirits are high. And yeah, we'll see where we're at next week."

As Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk noted, Nabers hasn’t yet done any team drills this summer, and he won't be playing in the Giants' preseason opener versus the Minnesota Vikings. Nabers hasn't played against an opposing defense since he suffered a torn ACL and torn meniscus last September. During the offseason, he required a "clean-up" procedure related to that setback.

Teammate opens up about recovery of Malik Nabers

The Giants did not make a move for a big-name wide receiver before or after the 2026 NFL Draft, and their overall talent at the position has sparked concerns among certain media members. In short, the Giants won't have a true No. 1 wide receiver on the field if Nabers either misses time or isn't the player of old whenever he returns to the lineup.

Giants linebacker Micah McFadden seems encouraged by what he has seen from Nabers this summer.

"He's been looking good," McFadden said about Nabers. "I've seen some of the stuff, just some of the videos of him making cuts, and yeah, it's good to see him far along, and we both were kind of going through that rehab process during the same time and definitely the early phases of it together, but it's good to see how far he's come."

Alper mentioned that "a smooth transition to team work would leave Nabers with little left to check off on his comeback to-do list other than play in a game." Whether or not Nabers will be able to make that transition next week shall be seen.
