Tommy Cutlets no more? Mike Vrabel makes surprising change for Tommy DeVito

Anybody who's followed Tommy DeVito's NFL career knows he's "Tommy Cutlets." The quarterback got that nickname after he declared his love for his mom's homemade chicken cutlets back when he was with the New York Giants in 2023.

But, Tommy Cutlets is no longer. New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has appeared to give DeVito a new nickname.

It's not a bad nickname. But, it takes a bit of the Jersey out of this young signal-caller.

Speaking to reporters during a news conference on Tuesday, Vrabel discussed DeVito. When asked about the quarterback, he said he's making real progress. But, what caught the attention of those listening is that he called DeVito "2 Chains" instead of "Tommy Cutlets."

"'2 Chains' is doing a nice job," Vrabel said of DeVito. "He, I think, continues to learn and with it being a new system, I think it got his attention a little bit better, as opposed to saying, 'Hey, I know what this is,' and kind of taking it for granted. I think he's really done a nice job."

He added that DeVito also did a good job "in the blue-white scrimmage, operating and doing things exactly the way that Ashton [Grant] and Josh [McDaniels] are coaching those guys to do it."

Finally, Vrabel said he's "excited about where Tommy has been" as far as his showing on the field lately.

Last season, DeVito didn't get any playing time. He spent the full season and postseason behind quarterbacks Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs.
