Jerry Jones recently got props for something he did for the Dallas Cowboys. It hasn't happened as much over the past few years, but this past offseason, Jones really put his money where his mouth was, as they say, and made changes that are expected to enhance this lineup.
Now, two of those moves are getting great reviews. It gives Jones and the Cowboys some bragging rights.
On Friday, Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report released a feature grading the NFL free agency's biggest signings at each position after the first week of the preseason. The Cowboys are in there twice with positive grades.
Gagnon approves of the Cowboys' signing of outside linebacker Von Miller to a one-year, $5.5 million deal. He gives it an "A" grade.
"The Cowboys' defense can use all of the help it can get, and this is a low-risk gamble on a legend who managed nine sacks on just 420 snaps last season," Gagnon noted. "The veteran leadership is worth the money on its own. This is another beautiful midsummer signing."
Then, he also gives an "A" grade to the team snagging safety Jalen Thompson on a three-year, $33 million deal with $22 million guaranteed.
"Thompson is a deeply underrated, reliable player in his prime, and it's entirely possible the bright lights of Dallas bring out a lot more from him as a potential difference-maker in his age-28 season and beyond. The contract isn't a monster either," Gagnon said.
That's two "A" grades for two of Jones' biggest offseason decisions. Not a bad way to start the season.
