The Michigan Wolverines are known for their football program, and that's why, no matter the season, there are always a lot of eyes on this team.
New head coach Kyle Whittingham certainly has his hands full gearing up to lead this championship team in his inaugural season. Expectations are high, as they always are for the maize and blue.
One thing that'll be critical for the Wolverines is having a healthy lineup. Now, Whittingham has shared some news that isn't the best when it comes to having a perfect roster.
When Michigan takes the field this season, they won't have one of their promising young stars on the roster. According to Whittingham, the team has lost freshman interior offensive lineman Ace Hamilton to a season-ending lower right leg injury. He shared the news during a press conference on Friday.
The positive news is that, other than Hamilton, Whittingham said the Wolverines haven't had any other big injuries during camp.
"Nothing that we're concerned about," Whittingham said to reporters. "We've had some setbacks with guys for a few days here, a few days there, but knock on wood, we haven't had anybody that... well, we had a freshman lineman get a lower leg injury that's going to hold him out."
He added, "Ace Hamilton will be out for the year, so that one is unfortunate. Very unfortunate."
So, there's a bit of good and bad info going into the new season. If the Wolverines can keep injuries low, that'll certainly help their case to get back to the championship game.
