Insider addresses uncertainty for Celtics regarding Paul George

The Boston Celtics made one of the most shocking moves in recent NBA history this offseason.

Jaylen Brown didn't request a trade, yet they still shipped him to a conference rival, acquiring former Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George in the process.

This was questionable for a team looking to stay at the top of the East for years to come, given George's diminished play, age and history of injuries.

That's why Brian Windhorst doesn't know how this move will age for Brad Stevens' team. In the latest edition of "The Hoops Collective," he wondered which version of Paul George the Celtics will get.

Paul George's inconsistency could doom the Celtics

“There’s no way to predict what Paul George is going to do,” Windhorst said. “Like he actually shot the hell out of the ball in the playoffs last year…He looked really good, but that doesn’t mean anything. I have no idea how he’s gonna hold up.”

George is a borderline Hall of Famer, one of the best two-way players and three-level scorers of his generation.

That said, he's also 36, has a history of injuries and struggled mightily with his shot early in his tenure with the 76ers.

The Celtics will rely heavily on Jayson Tatum, and George will be more of a complementary piece.

Still, with Jaylen Brown coming off an MVP-caliber season and being seven years younger, it's hard to feel the Celtics won the trade.

And, with the 76ers also adding LeBron James to the mix, they should be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference by a significant margin.
