White Sox set another 2026 milestone with win over Twins

After failing to go eight games over .500 in five previous opportunities, the Chicago White Sox reached a season high of nine games over at 72-63 with a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. The win over Minnesota stretched the White Sox's lead in the American League Central to 4.5 games and shrunk the magic number to 23 to win the division.

The turnaround after losing over 100 games in each of the past three seasons is remarkable. This season's turnaround is also remarkable. After beginning the season with seven wins and 14 losses, the White Sox have won 65 games and lost 49 since then.

After winning one of their first five games in March, the White Sox had 13 victories and 13 defeats in April. The White Sox set the foundation for this season with 18 wins and 10 losses in May. The White Sox went 13-12 in June and July, and are 14-12 in August, with two days left in the month. 

According to OptaSTATS, "The White Sox won their 71st game of the season [Friday] night against the Twins, breaking the record for the most wins in a single season by any team who lost at least 100 games in each of the previous three seasons."
