Cowboys land No. 1 spot in new NFL positional ranking

It doesn't get any better than being ranked No. 1, and the Dallas Cowboys haven't been dubbed the best in too much of anything lately. That's what makes this No. 1 showing even better.

The Cowboys have done a lot this offseason to improve their roster. General manager and owner Jerry Jones has traded for elite edge-rusher Rashan Gary, signed outside linebacker Von Miller and drafted safety Caleb Downs, to name just a few of the additions.

Now, Dallas is getting recognized for its strength in an area that it's actually been strong in for a while.

Cowboys are the best in one position in the NFL

On Friday, Jared Dubin of CBS Sports released a tally of every team's wide receiver room, ranked from best to worst. For the Cowboys, they're No. 1. Yes, Dallas ranked the best in the entire league. It's not hard to see why. They have two of the absolute best wide receivers on the same roster.

"CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are challenging enough to deal with, ranking as our No. 2 duo in the league behind Chase and Higgins," Dubin notes. "But Ryan Flournoy showed last year that he's a real player and KaVontae Turpin is a threat as a gadget guy."

Dubin adds, "The Cowboys can beat your secondary in every way imaginable."

Well, that's quite the endorsement. Quarterback Dak Prescott should like the sound of this ranking, too. Last season, Lamb had a stellar run, with 75 receptions for 1,077 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 14 games. Pickens had 93 receptions for 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 17 games. It's certainly the case that a lot of NFL offenses would absolutely love to have either Lamb or Pickens on their roster, but to have both takes it to another level.
