Warriors' latest revelation exposes an ugly truth they kept hidden

The way the Golden State Warriors handled the Jonathan Kuminga situation is one that definitely did not sit well with many, most prominently with the young forward himself. To that end, the latest spill about their front office's real stance on their own draft pick will only sound even more upsetting, especially to fans.

In a recent exchange on the "Run it Back Show" on FanDuel TV, Aaron Turner, who represents Kuminga, bared that the five-year, $150 million offer supposedly tendered by the Warriors to his client was not real. Further, Golden State apparently never even offered a contract extension to Kuminga, which is the most surprising part about his exposé.

If anything, this just goes to show that the Warriors knew all along that they made a mistake drafting Kuminga and establishing him as part of their young core. While the forward had a lot of upside and had the skill set to be an All-Star, the Warriors simply did not have the infrastructure to allow him to blossom as people expected.

Kuminga often clashed with the team's decision-makers, especially Steve Kerr. The Warriors would often have him play a major role at the start of the season, only to relegate him to the bench or even garbage-time duty in high-stakes settings. It did not help that Golden State had way too many lower-maintenance options to man his spot in the rotation, either.

Still, the fact that the Warriors seem to have never extended an offer to Kuminga is pretty jarring considering the fact that they do not really have anyone young on their roster who can be tabbed as a potential franchise cornerstone. Despite the iffy fit next to their veterans, Kuminga at least had the makings of someone who can fit that description moving forward.

Instead, they shipped Kuminga during last season's trade deadline, and now the young forward finds himself in a fascinating situation as a projected role player in Minnesota.
