Cubs set multiple records with nine-HR outburst vs. Brewers

The Chicago Cubs just wrapped up one of the most dominant offensive months in the history of Major League Baseball.

Chicago entered Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers with 53 home runs in the month of August, the most in the league by a wide margin.

A massive offensive output from the Cubs in Monday's 17-3 win made both franchise and National League history.

Chicago sets a franchise record for home runs in a game

The Chicago offense slugged nine home runs on Monday, setting a new single-game franchise record. The Cubs got three home runs from Alex Bregman and one each from Matt Shaw, Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner, Tyrone Taylor, Michael Conforto and Carson Kelly.

Chicago was just one home run away from tying the all-time record for most home runs in a game from one team.

The Cubs also made National League history

With the nine home runs Monday, the Cubs finished August with 62 home runs. That set a new National League record for most home runs in a month, surpassing the 2023 Atlanta Braves.

Chicago is just the fourth team all-time to hit 60-plus home runs in a month and fell 12 short of the record of 74 set by the 2019 New York Yankees.

Chicago needs to stay hot the rest of the week

Monday's win over Milwaukee was the first step in the right direction in what is a massive series against the Brewers. The Cubs gained a game in the NL Central, moving themselves to seven games out of first place.

Chicago's offense will need to remain hot the rest of the week if it hopes to try to steal away a division title from Milwaukee in the final month of the season.
