Spurs finally get vindicated as Kawhi Leonard drama ends in ugly fashion

After months of investigation, the NBA has finally decided to drop the hammer on the Los Angeles Clippers and superstar forward Kawhi Leonard for salary cap circumvention, handing down an unprecedented penalty never seen before in league history. 

The league has found the Clippers culpable for their cap circumvention, while Leonard has been fined a hefty amount for improper benefits received by him and his uncle and former business rep, Dennis Robertson. 

Those names ought to sound especially familiar to the San Antonio Spurs, the team previously antagonized when the superstar left the Alamo City.

As everyone knows, Leonard's relationship with the Spurs unexpectedly took an ugly turn when both camps disagreed on how to handle his long-term injury. 

However, the reality behind the situation is that Robertson was angling toward taking Leonard out of San Antonio in order to go home to California, although he did take a detour to Toronto where he won a championship.

If anything, Robertson getting penalized himself alongside Kawhi is exactly the kind of vindication the Spurs have been demanding from the public eye for years now. 

Spurs' public image was damaged

They will never admit it given their clandestine nature, but San Antonio's public image definitely took a hit after the Leonard saga. Now, their naysayers will probably recant those baseless accusations and fan theories they hurled at the franchise years ago.

The Spurs are nicely set up to contend now and in the long run, so the wounds of the Kawhi Leonard drama already scabbed for quite some time now. 

Be that as it may, this recent development should finally close a dark chapter in the franchise's otherwise sterling history, and more importantly, they have proven that  they were in the right.
