Giants' Greg Newsome II clears the air on Cam Skattebo feud

Things got a little heated during New York Giants practice, and once again, Cam Skattebo was at the center of controversy.

The polarizing running back has reportedly been a little too physical in practice, and while there's nothing wrong with that in a game, defenses aren't allowed to hit him in practice.

Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II reportedly didn't care much for his antics, and they nearly went to blows.

However, as much as that's the last thing anyone wants to see just days before kick-off, the former Cleveland Browns draft pick claimed it's all water under the bridge.

Greg Newsome II dismisses any beef with Cam Skattebo

“Oh man you know, like I said, brothers fight. We were cool right after it,” Newsome told the media (h/t The Blue Zone). “Me and Scat, that's my guy. I like the energy. If you can't do this with your teammates and be cool in two seconds then that's not the mark of a great team. You got to have the energy, you got to have that competitiveness. So no, that's my guy.”

Things happen in the heat of the moment. Also, with the defense not being allowed to hit back, frustration might boil over.

Still, Skattebo should know better. He reportedly nearly took out multiple Giants defenders with a slide, and he had also had a run-in with Zaire Barnes in the previous practice.

He's earned a reputation for being an overly physical guy, but he's also been reckless, putting himself and some of his teammates in harm's way.

Even so, Newsome thinks he's much more than just a bruiser.

“Yeah, I think Scat can do a lot of things. Obviously, people see him as a big meathead, run through people, but he can do a lot of things very well on the football field,” Newsome added.

Whatever the case, the Giants will need Skattebo to tone it down in practice and bring that violence to the gridiron when it actually counts.
