Ashton Jeanty is back on the practice field, and that's good news for the Las Vegas Raiders as they prepare for their season opener against the Miami Dolphins.
Jeanty hasn't practiced since he suffered an ankle injury in training camp on Aug. 23.
The No. 6 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft was diving for a low pass that was thrown by Kirk Cousins. He landed awkwardly on the turf grass in the practice facility and had to be helped off the practice field.
Since then, Jeanty's status for the Week 1 contest in Las Vegas has been in question, though coach Klint Kubiak has expressed optimism that the star running back will be ready.
General manager John Spytek felt the same way in early September.
“I think he’s in a good spot. We see him every day. He’s working really hard. He’s on the mend,” Spytek said. “I expect him to be back as quick as he can. Maybe quicker than some people would expect. When that is we’ll see.”

Jeanty is now back, and the only hurdle he's going to have to try to quickly get over is getting back into "game shape" over the next few days.
That's impossible to fully do at the NFL level without actually playing in the games or practicing as if you're getting ready to play. With that in mind, it may be smart to consider Jeanty limited in Week 1 if he does end up suiting up against the Dolphins, which seems more likely as we get closer to game time.
As a rookie out of Boise State, Jeanty rushed 266 times for 975 yards and five touchdowns while also adding 346 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver.
