Projected Maxx Crosby trade to Bears gets surprising endorsement

The Chicago Bears put on the most impressive offensive display in football in Week 1, scoring 59 points on the road against the Carolina Panthers.

The only problem is that they also gave up 37, and even with an explosive and stacked offense, that's not going to cut it most of the time. Considering that, Kansas City Chiefs legend Mitchell Schwartz surprisingly called for the Bears to make a run at Maxx Crosby.

In a recent appearance on "The Jim Rome Show," the former Super Bowl champion made a case for Crosby being the missing piece for Ben Johnson's team.

Chiefs legend urges Bears to trade for Maxx Crosby

“You almost wonder if maybe there’s a Maxx Crosby trade brewing at the deadline, some way to kind of bolster that defense,” Schwartz said. “If they are going to score the way they are and they’re going to have 10, 14, 17-point leads in the third and fourth quarter, you’re going to have to get after the quarterback at some point. You’re going to have to make a couple of stops. A guy like that brings versatility in running and passing.”

While he has a valid point, his preference for him in Chicago over Kansas City is somewhat surprising. Perhaps he knows there's no way the Las Vegas Raiders will send him to a fellow AFC West rival, so the second-best thing will be to have him out of the conference altogether.

Whatever the case, the Bears were reportedly in the mix to get Crosby before his failed trade to the Baltimore Ravens. They need someone to line up opposite Montez Sweat, as their inability to put pressure at the line of scrimmage threatens to derail their promising season, regardless of their stacked offense.

Now, whether the Raiders will reconsider trading their superstar pass-rusher remains to be seen. Even if they do, the Bears know the bidding will most likely start at two first-round picks.
