Bills HC Joe Brady admits he wasn't satisfied with Josh Allen despite game-winning TD

Josh Allen delivered when the Buffalo Bills needed him most in Week 1. Head coach Joe Brady still found something he didn't like.

Brady made it clear Tuesday that Allen's game-winning touchdown against the Houston Texans wasn't going to erase what happened one play earlier.

Brady has plenty of faith in his quarterback. In fact, he said there isn't another person he trusts more professionally. That doesn't mean Allen gets a pass when something goes wrong.

"We won the football game. He had the game-winning touchdown, right? But he understands that play before, you know, could have led to the point that, you know, we didn't come out of the game with a win," Brady said. "And those, we can't just gloss over that and feel like, OK, hey, just because we got the win, that's OK."

It's an interesting window into the relationship between Buffalo's new head coach and its franchise quarterback. Allen came through when Buffalo needed him. Brady acknowledged it. Then he went right back to the mistake that could have made the touchdown irrelevant.

Brady isn't looking for perfection, either. He wants the same accountability coming back in his direction.

"He wants to be challenged. That's why he's as great as he can be, and we can hold each other accountable," Brady said. "There's plays out there that I didn't like, my play calls, and I'll be the first to admit that to him. And I hope that he can bring that to me and be like, 'What were you thinking in that situation?'"
