Injury report reveals massive update ahead of LSU-Ole Miss showdown

There is no bigger game in college football in Week 3 than the massive SEC showdown between the No. 7 LSU Tigers and No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels.

The major storyline is the return of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin to Ole Miss, the school he departed last season just ahead of the first College Football Playoff appearance in program history.

The massive game got another storyline Wednesday night when the SEC injury reports were revealed, and a surprise name appeared for LSU.

Sam Leavitt is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game

To the surprise of many college football fans around the country, LSU starting quarterback Sam Leavitt was listed as doubtful on the first injury report of the week.

There are three more injury reports that will be revealed throughout the week, but for now, Leavitt's name on the "doubtful" portion of the list is a shock to many.

Sam Leavitt struggled in Week 2

Despite a 45-14 win and 344 passing yards against LA Tech in Week 2, Leavitt struggled throughout the game. He threw three interceptions in the game, a career high for him in his four-year career.

There were no indications that he was injured after the win in Week 2, making his addition to the injury report such a surprise to the college football world.

Husan Longstreet is the next man up if Sam Leavitt can't go

If indeed Leavitt is too injured to play Saturday, LSU will turn to redshirt freshman Husan Longstreet.

Longstreet transferred in from USC, where he spent last season and completed 13-of-15 passes for 109 yards with one touchdown. He also added 11 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

The hype surrounding the top 10 showdown would take a hit without Leavitt, but what an opportunity it would be for Longstreet to march into a hostile environment and shock the world if he could help LSU pull off the upset.
