Dodgers announce reason for Blake Snell's early departure

A large part of the Los Angeles Dodgers repeating as World Series Champions was their outstanding starting pitching in the postseason.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the catalyst at the front of the rotation, and a solid No. 2 behind him was left-hander Blake Snell. Snell has been on the injured list twice already this season, and concern for a third time has grown substantially after an early exit from his start on Wednesday.

Blake Snell lasted just 19 pitches, one inning on Wednesday

Snell threw a scoreless first inning against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. When the bottom of the second inning came, though, it was right-hander Blake Treinen on the mound and not Snell.

With speculation growing, Los Angeles finally revealed that Snell exited his start after experiencing left groin tightness. A non-arm-related injury is a relief for Dodgers fans, but the focus now turns toward how serious the injury potentially is.

Snell has been exceptional as of late, allowing one or fewer runs in his previous six starts and striking out 46 batters across 34 2/3 innings in that stretch.

Los Angeles cannot afford a serious injury to Blake Snell

The Dodgers are already dealing with pitching injuries to Shohei Ohtani and Roki Sasaki. Tyler Glasnow has been on the injured list at some point in each of the past six seasons.

That leaves just Tarik Skubal and the aforementioned Yamamoto as the only trustworthy and healthy pitchers for an extended period. Los Angeles will certainly be hoping to receive good news surrounding Snell's injury.

If it's not good, though, the Dodgers securing a first-round bye in the postseason will be even more important to allow their pitchers more time to recover and get healthy ahead of their quest to three-peat as World Series Champions.
