Cowboys emerge as potential landing spot for $76M veteran cornerback

The Dallas Cowboys may not be finished looking for help in their secondary after a rough start to the 2026 season.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox identified Cleveland Browns cornerback Tyson Campbell as a potential trade candidate entering Week 2 and named Dallas and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as possible landing spots.

Tyson Campbell could give Cowboys another option at cornerback

Campbell isn't a superstar addition, but Dallas doesn't necessarily need one. The Cowboys need another reliable option at cornerback after watching their secondary struggle in the season-opening loss to the New York Giants.

Knox believes Cleveland's situation could eventually make Campbell expendable as the Browns look toward the future.

"The Browns should be looking to chase 2027 draft capital in their pursuit of a quality quarterback. Starting corner Tyson Campbell could potentially bring some," Knox wrote.

Campbell, 26, started 12 games for Cleveland last season and allowed an opposing passer rating of 84.8 in coverage, according to Knox. He is also under contract through 2028, meaning Dallas wouldn't be giving up draft capital for a short-term rental.

The former Georgia standout originally signed a four-year, $76.5 million extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 before being traded to Cleveland during the 2025 season.

Cowboys have reason to explore the trade market

One game shouldn't send an NFL front office into panic mode, but Dallas' performance against New York certainly didn't quiet concerns about its secondary.

DaRon Bland surrendered a 137.9 passer rating when targeted in Week 1, according to Pro Football Focus. Shavon Revel played only 20 defensive snaps, while offseason addition Cobie Durant provided one of the brighter performances at the position.

Campbell wouldn't suddenly solve every problem on the Cowboys defense. He would, however, give Dallas an experienced starting corner with multiple years remaining on his contract.

Knox projects Campbell's trade value at a conditional 2027 third-round pick. That's a significant enough investment that Dallas would have to believe Campbell represents more than a temporary patch.

Cleveland also has little reason to rush into a deal this early in the season. But if the Browns continue losing and begin looking toward 2027, Campbell could become one of the more intriguing veteran cornerbacks available.

For a Cowboys team already searching for answers in the secondary, that's a possibility worth keeping an eye on.
