The team knew it had a tall task to take down a 2-0 Buffalo Bills team, but the veteran quarterback wasn’t up to the challenge. He threw yet another interception on Sunday afternoon and was a big reason why Los Angeles blew a 10-0 lead. Herbert might not be the only problem with the team, but he certainly hasn’t been an answer this season.

The Chargers fell to 0-3, and things could get much worse with a gauntlet of opponents upcoming. They believed they finally had a quarterback who put them on an equal playing field against elite teams, but Herbert has been more of a hindrance as of late.

Justin Herbert’s regression is hard to ignore

He hasn’t been a guy who puts the team on his back in quite some time, and he even seems to be regressing in some areas.

After coming into the league as one of the best deep-ball throwers, Herbert has become one of the worst quarterbacks in that aspect. ESPN reporter Kris Rhim revealed that the Chargers’ signal-caller is just 1-for-12 with three interceptions on passes of 20 or more yards downfield this year.

Herbert has become inaccurate, skittish in the pocket, and someone the Chargers have to overcome rather than a player they can depend on to be excellent. He was long viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but he has to accept that it’s no longer the case.

His numbers don’t look the part of an elite quarterback, and he hasn’t had the requisite team success to remain in that group. Herbert is one of the most talented players in the NFL, but the execution has been lacking for a long time now.
