Mike Evans gets carted off after a big hit by Budda Baker

The hits just keep on coming for the San Francisco 49ers.

Niners star receiver Mike Evans was knocked out of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. In the second quarter at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., Evans caught a short pass over the middle from quarterback Brock Purdy.

After Evans secured the catch, Cardinals safety Budda Baker caught him with a big hit to the ribs. Evans was staggered by the hit and, after making it through one more snap, eventually fell to a knee on the turf.

The six-time Pro Bowler Evans ultimately had to be carted off the field. He exited with under two minutes to go in the second quarter as the 49ers took a 17-6 lead into halftime.

Evans, 33, signed a three-year deal with San Francisco over the offseason. He has emerged as the team’s clear No. 1 receiver, especially with fellow wideouts Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling all currently on injured reserve.

But now there is plenty of concern about Evans himself and what his availability might look like moving forward. That is more bad news for a Niners team that is already dealing with multiple injuries to stars on the other side of the ball as well.
