Chase Briscoe felt like he had to win at Kansas to stay in NASCAR title hunt

A win at Kansas Speedway on Sunday would've done wonders for Chase Briscoe and the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing team. 

Briscoe would've been only 103 points back of leader Kyle Larson rather than 103. Perhaps more importantly, he'd have won multiple races in his first two seasons with JGR, further proving that he was the right choice to succeed a future Hall of Famer in Martin Truex Jr. 

Instead, Briscoe was outdriven by Larson in the closing laps after taking the lead with 30 laps to go. Not only did Briscoe not win the race, but he fell to fourth after hitting the wall twice in the race's waning moments. 

Briscoe drove an excellent race on Sunday and was the only driver who had anything for Larson, who swept the stages and led 235 of 267 laps, but didn't have quite enough to score what would've been a massive victory.
