South Carolina HC Shane Beamer takes action after Dylan Stewart’s chaotic night at Alabama

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer has made a significant decision involving one of the Gamecocks’ most talented defensive players.

Dylan Stewart has been suspended indefinitely

Beamer announced Sunday that junior defensive end Dylan Stewart has been indefinitely suspended from the team.

The suspension of Stewart comes after an inexcusable outburst on Saturday from the uber-talented third-year player. Stewart was involved in several sideline arguments with the South Carolina coaching staff, including Beamer.

He was seen yelling at his coaches at certain points throughout the game. He also received a roughing the passer penalty, as well as an unsportsmanlike penalty for throwing a punch at an Alabama player.

Stewart was also seen shoving defensive end Julian Walker and telling him to get off the field when Walker was sent on to replace Stewart. It was an outburst that was completely unnecessary and has now cost Stewart his spot on the team for the time being.

Will Dylan Stewart play again this season?

Stewart has already been ruled out of South Carolina's Week 5 game against Kentucky, but what will the suspension be beyond that?

According to Jack Veltri of Gamecock Central, Beamer is expected to make a decision on Stewart's future with the team "within the next day or two." If Saturday's antics were any indication of the lack of respect Stewart has for his coaches, then the decision that Beamer will make seems to be an easy one.

While yes, Stewart is one of the most talented players in the country, his attitude and demeanor can be detrimental in the locker room and not something Beamer wants his program to be associated with.

It would not be a bit surprising if, in the coming days, Beamer announces that Stewart is no longer with the program, therefore ending his 2026 season, as well as ruining all of the draft stock he'd built up heading into what was supposed to be a stellar season.
