Giants' John Harbaugh makes strong Jameis Winston statement after 'aggressive' QB report

On Sunday morning, NFL insiders Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo of ESPN and NFL Network linked the New York Giants with multiple quarterbacks who could potentially replace Jameis Winston as the club's temporary QB1 this season. 

Winston then failed to impress in the Giants' 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans (0-3) that improved Big Blue to 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Nevertheless, first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh suggested after his team's victory that he isn't looking for a different starting signal-caller. 

Jameis Winston to stay Giants starter ... for now

"Yes. Yes, I do," Harbaugh said when asked if he expects Winston to remain the Giants starter, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. "Yes, I do."

Winston is filling in for first-choice Giants starter Jaxson Dart, who will miss at least the rest of the regular season due to the knee injury he suffered in New York's loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 21. Against the Rams, Winston went 11-of-27 passing for 111 yards with an interception and no touchdowns. In windy and rainy conditions versus the Titans, Winston completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards and no touchdown drives. 

According to the Giants' website, Harbaugh insisted that Winston's play in a difficult environment won't influence who the Giants do or don't add to their quarterback room. 

"Not at all," Harbaugh said. "Not at all. The plans are the plans. The opportunities that you have are the opportunities you have. No matter what, we're going to do everything we can to make our team as strong as we can based on what options we have."

Before Sunday's action kicked off, NFL insider Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that the Giants were "actually going to be pretty aggressive" regarding their quarterback situation. Glazer also hinted that Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback Joe Flacco, Arizona Cardinals backup Gardner Minshew II and Mac Jones of the San Francisco 49ers won't be joining the Giants. However, Glazer added that Kansas City Chiefs backup Justin Fields "is one of those guys [that the Giants] are thinking about." 

Jameis Winston has the support of Giants teammates

Following the Giants' win on Sunday, Winston's teammates offered him public support. 

"I'm not worried about that," Giants offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor said about the club being in the market for different quarterbacks. "I don't care about that. Jameis is our quarterback now. We're going to ride with him for the rest of the season."

Even if the Giants acquire one or two quarterbacks as soon as Monday, one would think that Winston will get the start when New York hosts the 1-2 Cardinals on Oct. 4. As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Giants as 1.5-point home underdogs for that game. 

"We did win, didn't we? We trust our guy back there," Giants center John Michael Schmitz added about Winston. "We trust that he can get the job done. We've got all the belief in him as our quarterback."
